Pakistan Army chief to visit Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (PTI): Pakistan army chief General Raheel Sharif will visit Sri Lanka this week during which he is expected to meet the country's top leadership to boost military cooperation.

Sharif will arrive in Colombo on June 5, the Ministry of Defence said.

The Pakistan army chief will be here on an invitation by his Sri Lankan counterpart Lt. Gen. Crishantha De Silva.

During his five-day stay, General Sharif is expected to pay courtesy calls on President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He will also meet Commanders of the Navy and Air Force and visit several military establishments.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy a high-level of military cooperation.

Pakistan supported Sri Lanka's military campaign which in 2009 ended a decades-old separatist battle in the north and east of the country.
