ISLAMABAD (PTI): Pakistan on Tuesday test fired the nuclear-capable Ghauri ballistic missile with a range of 1,300 kilometres that can hit targets in India.

"Pakistan today successfully carried out the test fire of medium range ballistic Ghauri (or) Hatf-5 (missile)," a spokesman of the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

"It has a range of 1,300 km and can carry all types of warheads," the spokesman said.

The military did not say where the missile was test fired.

Officials described the test of the missile as a "normal experiment to identify its capability."

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated the Pakistan Army and the nation on the successful test of the missile.

The Pakistani military had tested two nuclear-capable missiles in May this year.
