ISLAMABAD (PTI): A Pakistan Air Force jet crashed during a training mission in Punjab province on Wednesday, injuring a woman trainee pilot and an instructor in the third such mishap in three months.

The FT-7 jet was on a routine training mission when it crashed near the Mianwali airbase in Punjab shortly after take-off, the officials told the media.

The woman trainee pilot and the instructor were injured in the incident, they said.

Despite sustaining injuries, the trainee pilot and the instructor were safe, the officials said.

This was the third air force jet to crash in training in three months.

Two pilots were killed in the other accidents and a helicopter crash in June last year killed four military personnel.

The FT-7 jet is a variant of the Chengdu J-7 aircraft made by China.

The Pakistan Air Force has a large fleet of Chinese aircraft and recently inducted the JF-17 Thunder, a combat jet jointly developed by China and Pakistan.
