Oshkosh Defense delivers 1st FMTV trucks, trailers to US Army

OSHKOSH (BNS): US Army has received the first family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) trucks from Oshkosh Defense on Thursday.

The family contains two FMTV variants and trailers for both vehicles. The Oshkosh FMTVs feature the Long-Term Armor Strategy (LTAS)-compliant cab solution.

“These Oshkosh vehicles represent a major milestone for the FMTV programme, and exemplify our history of meeting commitments to the US Army, we are looking forward to deliver these mission-critical vehicles to our country’s war-fighters," Mike Ivy, vice president and general manager, Army Programs, Oshkosh Defense, said in a company news release.

“We are pleased to do all we can to advance the safety and protection of our war-fighters,” Ivy added.

The Oshkosh Defense has completed the first delivery of FMTV programme ahead of schedule as the original dateline of the production unit was schedule in October 2010.

Oshkosh has received orders to deliver 5,209 FMTV trucks and trailers to the US Army by December 2011.

The FMTV is a series of 17 models and 23 variants ranging from 2.5-ton to 10-ton payloads.

In the five- year FMTV contract US army will receive approx 23,000 vehicles and trailers including support services and training from Oshkosh.
