CHARLOTTESVILLE (BNS): The Spanish Navy is upgrading two of its Maria class frigates with Northrop Grumman's new-generation Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT navalised radars.
Northrop's Sperry Marine vice president, J Nolasco DaCunha said, "We are currently working to integrate the radars on these platforms with the Spanish Navy's newly developed SCOMBA (Sistema de Combate de los Buques de la Armada) combat management system."
The equipment is being supplied through Aeromarine, the sales and service representative for the company's Sperry Marine products and systems in Spain.
Sperry Marine recently upgraded its line of navalised radars with new features, including dual-radar input, 600-knot target tracking capability, CCTV interface and stabilized sector transmission.
Northrop has supplied VisionMaster FT radars for more than 20 Spanish navy ships, including the new class of maritime action ships and the amphibious assault ship Juan Carlos I, which just completed sea trials last month, DaCunha said.
