Northern Command commemorates 1965 war

JAMMU (PTI): The Northern Command headquarters on Saturday commemorated the victory of Indian Army in 1965 Indo-Pak War.

Senior serving officers, veterans, veer naris, families and children paid rich tributes to the soldiers of the War at a function held at Udhampur, an PRO Defence, Northern Command said.

The event was presided over by Lt Gen N P S Hira, Chief of Staff Headquarters Northern Command, who flagged off two adventure activities which includes an expedition covering approximately 300 km (Nagrota-Akhnoor-Rakhmuthi) by a team of the para-motors and 'The Victory Car Rally' comprising a team of ex-servicemen and serving officers.

They will traverse 1,700 km over rugged terrain (Udhampur-Srinagar-Uri-Poonch-Akhnoor-Nagrota in J&K Ambala-New Delhi) before being flagged in at Rajpath, New Delhi on September 18, 2015, the PRO said.

The ceremony included an enthralling display by para motorists and a 'Combat Free Fall' by the Army's Special Forces team, flown in from Agra for the event.

During the interaction with veterans and veer naris, the Chief of Staff applauded the contribution of the veterans in 1965 wherein the Indian military won a resounding victory over the Pakistan Army, the PRO said.

The adventure activities are being conducted to pay homage to the heroes of the Indo-Pak war of 1965.

Earlier in the day, in a solemn function to honour the sacrifices made by the braves of Indian Army in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, rich tributes were paid by serving officers and veterans at the Dhruva War Memorial, Udhampur.
