No decision on purchase of Japanese amphibious aircraft: Govt


The US 2i aircraft.

NEW DELHI (PTI): No decision has been taken to buy long-range amphibian aircraft from Japan, the Government said in the Lok Sabha Friday.

"No decision has been taken by the Government for the procurement of US 2i amphibian aircraft from Japan," Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told the lower house in a written reply.

The US 2i was developed by ShinMaywa Industries and has a range of 4,700 km and can land in seas with waves of up to three metres. It has long-range civilian and military applications.
