Nepal, US discuss ways to boost military cooperation

KATHMANDU (PTI): Nepal and US on Sunday discussed ways to boost bilateral military cooperation during a key visit of a top American commander here.

Lt Gen Francis J. Wiercinski, Commanding General US Army, Pacific (USARPAC), met Nepal Army's Chief of Staff, Gen. Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, and discussed matters relating to cooperation between the two military organisations.

Gen Wiercinski, who arrived here on a four-day official visit, will discuss collaboration and management with the Nepalese military of possible mega disaster relief works in future, Nepal Army's spokesman Ramindra Chhetri said.

The top American commander will pay a visit to the School of Jungle Warfare Training Centre in southern Nepal's Amlekhjung and visit Mid-division Army Headquarters in Hetauda in central Nepal.

He will also pay an inspection visit to Nepal Army' Training Centre at Panchkhal in the east of Kathmandu and Commanding Staff College.
