Navantia proposes to build Brazilian naval ships

RIO DE JANEIRO (BNS): Leading Spanish shipbuilder Navantia has proposed to build 11 naval vessels for the Brazilian Navy under its PROSUPER project.

The shipbuilder made a presentation before the Brazilian Navy in this regard on April 11 at Rio de Janeiro.

“Navantia’s proposal to the Brazilian Navy is based on two major strengths: proven ships requested for the three classes (frigates, OPVs and AOR), and extensive experience in technology transfer in countries such as Australia, India and Norway,” the company said.

Brazil plans to procure five 6,000-ton frigates, five 1,800-ton ocean patrol vessels (OPVs), and a support vessel under the PROSUPER (Programa de Obtenção de Meios de Superfície) project.

All the ships are to be built in Brazil in cooperation with local companies.
