KURUKSHETRA (BNS): Even as the ambitious "Make-In-India" programme is steadily gaining ground at various levels, an annual Science & Technology fete centered on the popular theme has kicked off at NIT Kurukshetra with BrahMos Aerospace participating in a big way.

"TechSpardha 15"- a four-day event based on Science & Technology involving thousands of young students bringing in their novel, breakthrough ideas to design, develop and showcase new innovations, has begun at the NIT campus on March 12.

BrahMos Aerospace, which is participating in the event, is displaying the world-class, universal BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile system from different launch platforms.

A full-scale model of the missile, also on display, is a huge crowd puller, with many students and other enthusiasts thronging in to get a glimpse of the weapon.

Exhorting the young, talented minds, taking part in the event, Dr. Satish Kumar, Distinguished Scientist, CC R&D (Tech Management), DRDO has said that the Make-In-India programme has offered numerous challenges and opportunities to the new-generation of engineers and scientists to make the country great and prosperous.

"India can do. Indians can do. We have to do. We have all the capabilities to make our country prosperous and great," the distinguished scientist, while inaugurating the national-level event, said on Thursday.

"Scientific academia is the foundation to create quality manpower," he added.

Prof. Anand Mohan, Director of NIT, said: "Today, the time and focus has shifted from technology-based to knowledge-based to innovation-based products. Innovation has become the top priority at the national level."

He further said that isolated research alone cannot lead to a world-class product.

"It needs synergy and multi-disciplinary approach at various levels to achieve breakthrough in designing and developing world-class systems."

Prateek Garg, MD and CEO of Progressive Infotech Pvt. Ltd and a alumni of the prestigious institute, said that the art of "learning, unlearning and relearning" things is the key to success in today's rapidly changing technological environment.
