MAMUN CANTT., PUNJAB (PTI): Indian Army chief General Dalbir Singh has said that the morale of the Indian army was high as he expressed hope that in any battle it would emerge victorious.
"The morale of the our army is high and in any battle the Indian army would emerge victorious," the Chief of Army Staff said on Wednesday while addressing the 'Presentation of the Standards' ceremony here.
Gen Singh on Wednesday presented 'Standards' to the 84-Armoured Regiment and the 50-Armoured Regiment on behalf of President Pranab Mukherjee.
While congratulating the two regiments on the occasion, Gen Singh said, "Not only the army but the entire country is proud of you. Your responsibilities have increased manifolds after you were presented with the Standards today, as expectations from you have increased."
Lauding the role of the 84-Armoured Regiment and the 50-Armoured Regiment, Gen Dalbir Singh said, "The honour has been bestowed upon you in due recognition of your dedicated and meritorious service since the raising."
Raised in 1976 and 1987 respectively, the 84-Armoured Regiment and the 50-Armoured Regiment are the front line regiments of the Indian Armoured corps that have participated in large number of operations.
"The hard work and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of both the regiments have been recognised by various awards and medals," Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
He said 'Standards', 'Guidons' and 'Colours' are presented to the army units on approval of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (the President), in recognition of the meritorious services rendered on the battlefield and off it.
The ceremony was attended by various senior army officers including General officer-Commanding-in-chief of Western Command Lt Gen KJ Singh, General officer-Commanding of 9 Corps Lt Gen Rajveev Tewari, General officer-Commanding of 2 Corps Lt Gen Ravindra Pratap Sahi and Commandant of the Armoured Corps Centre and School Lt Gen Ashok Kumar Mehta, and General officer-Commanding of 1 Corps Lt Gen AB Shivane.
