PUNE (PTI): Signalling a new chapter in its defence business, Mahindra Defence Naval Systems (MDNS) inaugurated a new underwater systems and naval applications manufacturing facility at Chakan.
Describing the new facility as representing an "important milestone" in India's rapidly expanding private sector defence industry, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra told reporters onTuesday that MDNS had bagged a Rs 100-crore order from the Indian Navy to be delivered in two years.
The new plant would support Mahindra Defence Systems' naval defence business. The group already has a Land and Radar Systems business operating from Prithia near Faridabad.
Its line of products for the navy includes sea mines, missile container, Underwater Autonomous Vehicle and torpedo components, MDNS officials said.
MDNS which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra Defence Systems, also plans to develop other products for the Navy which include mine saddles for submarines and a new torpedo defence system.
