MBDA demos MMP missile firing from confined space

PARIS (BNS): European missile maker MBDA has demonstrated the firing capability of its MMP (Missile Moyenne Portée) land attack missile in confined space.

The successful test, conducted in MBDA's test tunnel at its Bourges facility in central France, has validated the safety of using the new missile and its firing post.

The test, carried out in hot and cold climatic conditions, has also proved the weapon's optimal function in different temperatures and divergent operational theatres.

Also, the new warhead tests have confirmed the efficiency of MMP against targets representing latest generation main battle tanks.

MBDA is developing the MMP as a lightweight, man-portable surface attack missile based on the concept of 'fire and forget' for the French Army.

The missile, with a range of 4-km, can be fired from a networked infantry firing post or from a vehicle turret. It is capable of destroying both stationary and moving targets.

The new missile is designed to replace France's Milan wire-guided anti-tank missile.
