MARIETTA (BNS): Lockheed Martin has delivered the 20th C-5M Super Galaxy strategic airlifter to the US Air Force.
The Air Force crew ferried the new heavy military transport aircraft to the Travis Air Force Base, California from Lockheed's Marietta facility on June 30.
The airlifter was delivered 28 days ahead of the contracted schedule, Lockheed said.
A refurbished version of its predecessor the C-5 Galaxy, the C-5M Super Galaxy incorporates more than 70 changes and upgrades, including newer, quieter General Electric engines making it more reliable and 10 percent more fuel efficient than the legacy C-5s.
Lockheed is contracted to deliver a total of 52 C-5M Super Galaxies to the USAF.
