MUMBAI (PTI): Engineering major Larsen & Toubro said that it has bagged an order worth Rs 977 crore from the Ministry of Defence for construction of interceptor boats.

The company has bagged a contract from MoD for design and construction of 36 high-speed interceptor boards for the Indian Coast Guard, L&T said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The boats will feature aluminium-alloy hull construction with water jet propulsion to enable quick response, the filing said.

"The boats are planned to be constructed at L&T's existing shipyard at Hazira and at its new shipyard coming up at Katupalli near Ennore," the company said Monday.

Shares of L&T were trading at Rs 1,612.10 on BSE, down 0.53 per cent from its previous close.
