Japan, China to hold maiden joint naval exercise

TOKYO (BNS): In a move aimed at bolstering bilateral defence ties, Japan and China have decided to hold their maiden naval exercise at an “appropriate time”.

The military exercise would focus on search and rescue-at-sea operation.

The two Asian powers took the decision in this regard when Japanese Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa met his Chinese counterpart Liang Guanglie here last week, Japan’s Kyoto news agency reported.

The two countries also agreed to expand their defence cooperation and improve communication by conducting meeting of high-level defence officials and uniformed officers regularly, the report said.
