HAIFA, ISRAEL (BNS): The Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) has recently awarded $40 million worth contract to supply Cardom systems to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Cardom systems, manufactured by Elbit Systems' subsidiary Soltam Systems Ltd., were initially supplied to the IDF in 2007 and are considered among the most advanced of their kind in the world, according to a news release by Elbit Systems.
The Cardom (Hatchet) is a 120mm Recoil Mortar System (RMS) with innovative fire control, navigation, automatic aiming and propulsion systems. It is used by the US army, the Israeli Defence Force, NATO countries, and others.
The Cardom is an autonomous, computerized system for mounting on light and medium armoured carriers. The system provides accurate and effective fire support.
The systems are to be supplied over a period of four years.
