TEHRAN (BNS): The Iranian Navy will begin military exercise in the strategic waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman on Wednesday, Iranian media reported.
The war game will last for eight days and cover a span of about 250,000 square kilometres of Iranian territorial waters.
“The massive maneuvers, entitled Velayat-89, will display (Iran’s) defensive and deterrent naval power,” and will convey the message of “peace and friendship” to regional countries, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari was quoted as saying by the Tehran Times.
Submarines and air force units will also be used in the maneuvers in the country's second military show in less than a month.
In April, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) held a five-day maneuver in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, during which the IRGC tested missiles and a new speedboat capable of destroying enemy ships, the report said.
