Iran to hold naval drills in Gulf: State TV

TEHRAN (AFP): Iran's navy will begin from Wednesday an eight-day drill in the Gulf, a top commander told state-owned Al-Alam television.

The exercises are to be held less than two weeks after Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards held four days of war games in the Gulf, Sea of Oman and the key oil route of Strait of Hormuz.

"The navy will perform the drill for eight days in the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean covering an area of 250,000 square kilometers," naval commander Habibollah Sayari told Al-Alam, Tuesday.

Iran's armed forces regularly conduct such drills which boast of their military abilities and often test-fire what they say are home-built missiles during these exercises.
