TEHRAN (BNS): Iran has test-fired an upgraded version of its long range Sejil-2 (also called Sajjil-2/ Sejjil-2) surface-to-surface missile on Wednesday, according to the official news agency.

The missile hit its pre-determined target successfully, the IRNA news agency reported.

Iranian Defence Minister who witnessed the test said the significance of the new Sejil-2 missile is that it is impossible to destroy it by anti-missile rockets.

He insisted the new missile would be used only to defend peace, security and stability both in Iran and in the entire region.

The missile, with a range of 2,000 kilometers, operates in two stages using solid fuel. It has a longer range than the Shahab missile which has a range between 1,300-km and 2,000-km.

Shahab was test-fired in Spetember this year. The Islamic Republic had also launched a number of missiles during a war game last month.
