TEHRAN (BNS): The Iranian Navy has launched four indigenously built submarines enhancing its defence capability, a media report said.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony on Sunday, Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said, the submarines were delivered to the navy as part of the efforts to promote its defense capability.

He described the Ghadir as a stealth submarine built for coastal operations in shallow waters. The vessel can target with precision and is hardly detectable by sonar, a report by IRNA said.

The submarine is based on North Korean models of the Yono class and can shoot torpedoes, according to a media report. The vessel’s main tasks include moving commandos, laying mines and reconnaissance missions, it said.
