Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile systems
TEHRAN (BNS): Iran is developing its own version of the Russian S-300 missile system, according to a senior military commander.
The national daily Tehran Times, quoting Commander of the Khatam-ol-Anbiya military base Farzad Ismaili said, experts at the military base in cooperation with the Defence Ministry is designing the missile system.
The Iranian version of the system called ‘Bavar-373’ uses two to three types of missiles in different layers to confront aerial targets, the Fars News Agency quoted him as saying.
Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defence systems but Russia has not delivered the missiles so far.
