Iran claims unique anti-ship weapon

The Islamic Public News Agency, Iran’s official news, quoted an Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) official, saying that Teheran “has tested a new advanced weapon.”

Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jaafari said on Monday that the weapon will “spare no enemy ship”. This is absolutely new technology; it had developed with homegrown technology so far unused by any other country, Jaafari was quoted as saying.

The newly tested missiles are also capable of hitting US military bases in the Middle East and also Israel. The tests were held amidst more emphatic statements by Iranian representatives addressed to the West and escalation of tension on the Iranian nuclear programme.

The Iranian official claimed that the technology used in the weapon was completely new and not in the possession of any other country. However, the official did not let out any information of when and where the weapon was tested.

Early last month Iran test-fired nine medium and long-range missiles, which the White House said “addresses the doubts raised by the Russians that the Iranians won't have a longer-range ballistic missile for 10 to 20 years.”

Iran declared that its hand “will always be on the trigger, and our missiles will always be ready to launch” at “specific and pre-determined targets.”

“We warn the enemies who intend to threaten us with military exercises and empty psychological operations that our hand will always be on the trigger and our missiles will always be ready to launch," Revolutionary Guards air force commander Hossein Salami said.
