Iran building new indigenous satellite carrier

TEHRAN (BNS): Iran plans to complete building its indigenous satellite carrier Simorgh (Phoenix) by the end of March next year, said an official of Iran's Aerospace Technology Development Centre.

Iran's Press TV quoting Seyyed Mahdi Farahi, Director of the Aerospace Technology Development Centre said, the manufacturing work on the satellite that will be mounted on Simorgh is also underway.

Farahi did not give a specific date for the completion of the project but expressed hope that work on the satellite would also be completed by the end of this year.

According to the official, Iran also plans to launch remote sensing Amirkabir Satellite. The satellite, weighing 80 kg, will be located at an orbit 661 km away from the Earth.

He said Iran's Aerospace Technology Development Centre has also started the design work to launch an amphibious aircraft which can carry six passengers. The aircraft will have the capability to land on and take off from land and water surfaces, the report said.
