Indonesian naval ship visits Kochi


Indonesian ship KRI Bung Tomo.

KOCHI (PTI): Indonesian naval ship KRI Bung Tomo, a multi-role light frigate, docked at the Kochi port Tuesday.

During the visit, various interactions with the Southern Naval Command are planned, an official statement said.

Captain Yayan Sofyan, the Commanding Officer of the visiting Indonesian ship and Col Arif Harnanto, the Indonesian Resident DA at New Delhi interacted with the Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command on Tuesday.

Other activities include exchange of visits by specialist officers and personnel from both the navies. Indian Navy personnel would visit newly-inducted Indonesian ships and Indonesian personnel will also be visiting training facilities at Southern Naval Command, the statement said.

Indonesia has inducted three such multi-role light frigates which are equipped to combat surface and sub surface threat. Two more ships of the same class plan to visit Kochi in mid-September.

KRI Bung Tomo, built by UK's BAE Systems, is enroute to Jakarta following its commissioning in the Indonesian Navy at the Barrow-in-Furness, UK on July 18. The vessel halted at the Salalah port in Oman before arriving at Kochi.

It is scheduled to depart Kochi on September 4.
