KOLKATA (PTI): An Indian Army contingent have reached Dhaka to participate in the India-Bangladesh joint military exercise 'Sampriti-2016'.
Sixth in the series of joint exercises, this edition is being conducted at Bangabandhu Senanibas (BBS) at Tangail from November 5 to November 18 with a focus on counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations in semi mountainous and jungle terrain, an official release issued here said.
Led by Col P S Sandhi the Indian contingent comprises one company of Mahar Regiment, numbering close to 120 troops.
The 'Sampriti' series of bilateral exercises is one of the major bilateral defensive cooperation initiatives between the armies of India and Bangladesh. India had hosted the last joint exercise between the two countries last year at Binnaguri in West Bengal.
"Sampriti-2016 would commence with the familiarisation phase in various tactical drills and procedures that is essential for smooth and coordinated operations. Subsequently, soldiers from both the armies will undertake execution of joint tactical operations like Cordon and Search, Road Opening, Raid and House Clearance," the release said.
