FDN-1 - Indian Navy's Floating Dock.

PORT BLAIR (PTI): The Andaman and Nicobar Command of the Navy plans to set up its second floating dock at Port Blair, its Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, said on Wednesday.

This would cater to the maintenance needs of Navy and Coast Guard vessels being operated by the Command, he said.

Addressing mediapersons aboard a floating dock here, he said the Command had finalised the technical specifications of the proposed dock and it would be commissioned during the current plan period.

Elaborating on its capabilities, he said the dock would handle three medium ships at a time and all the controls would be fully modernised to improve safety measures.
