Indian Navy moving in worst-hit Gosaba for relief

KOLKATA (PTI): Along with the Army and Airforce, Navy too has engaged itself in relief operations at cyclone-hit Gosaba area in Sunderbans.

The Indian Navy has deployed three Gemini boats at Gosaba on Wednesday and their task will be to transport medical personnel and carry out other tasks incidental to relief operations, defence sources here said.

The Army, sources said, had been pressed into action once again to provide succour and relief to the Aila-affected people.

"Based on the request made by the state government, the Army is deploying medical teams in area of Basanti to assist state government in stopping spread of disease and provide relief to the people," sources said.

A total of 10 medical teams are being deployed, they said adding that six teams are expected to be on the job by this evening.

More medical teams would be provided by Thursday for which doctors and medical staff were being moved from other military stations on priority.

The Army, from its own resources, has been providing 10,000 food packets and 10,000 water packets.
