Indian Navy chief reviews military preparedness

PORT BLAIR (PTI): Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma has reviewed the progress made by the tri-service Andaman and Nicobar Command in developing and augmenting the military infrastructure there.

"Admiral Verma inspected the progress made in the ongoing efforts to augment infrastructure. While speaking to the men the Admiral expressed his satisfaction over the improvement of infrastructure and his anticipation for further progress in this regard," the Navy said in a release.

As part of its efforts to expand security infrastructure in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep chains in the Indian Ocean, Indian armed forces are increasing their presence and expanding assets there.

The efforts include expanding an air strips, deploying more troops and naval assets to take up operations in the Indian Ocean Region and nearby areas at a short notice.

Admiral Verma is on a three-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Command which is hosting 'MILAN', a biennial gathering of friendly navies. 14 foreign countries are participating in the eighth edition of the exercise.

During the visit, the Navy chief also met soldiers from the three services deployed there.
