KOHIMA (PTI): Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday made her maiden visit to Armys Spear Corps Zone at Rangpahar, Dimapur, where she was briefed about counter terrorist as well as border management operations on Indo-Myanmar border.
She would go to forward areas along the Indo-Myanmar border in Nagaland sector today, Public Relations Officer of Defence C Konwer said.
The minister arrived Tuesday in Nagaland on a two-day visit.
General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, Lt Gen Gopal R, briefed the Minister on the progress of operations of the corps which include counter terrorist as well as border management operations on Indo-Myanmar border in the North Eastern states.
During visit to forward areas, she would undertake a detailed assessment of the border guarding operations undertaken by Spear Corps and also interact with officers and troops of the Assam Rifles operating along the border areas so as to make a firsthand review of the security situation along the international border, the PRO said.
The Defence Minister before departing for Delhi the same evening would also meet and interact with the local people at those locations, the PRO defence added.
