NEW DELHI (BNS): Indian Army has received its first Unmanned Ground Vehicle developed indigenously for surveillance, and to detect NBC contaminations including mines, a media report said.

The prototype of the vehicle which is based on an infantry fighting vehicle, the BMP-II, has been handed over to the Indian army for trials, Defense News said, Thursday.

Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), operating under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has built the first unmanned ground vehicle for the Indian Army.

The prototype consists of a drive-by-wire system, which includes electromechanical actuators and drives for the driver interfaces, such as acceleration, brake, gear shifting, steering, clutch, parking brake, etc., according to a DRDO scientist.

“The signals from the engine are acquired by a data acquisition card and displayed in the graphical user interface. The vehicle would be a precursor to the development of a future unmanned battle tank,” the report said.
