Indian Army chief visits Western Command

CHANDIMANDIR, HARYANA (PTI): Indian Army Chief General Bikram Singh visited the Western Command here during which he was apprised about the initiatives being taken to enhance its operational effectiveness, especially with regard to counter-terrorism operations.

The two-day visit concluded on Monday.

Singh was received by Western Command General Officer Commanding in Chief Lieutenant General Philp Campose on his arrival to the Headquarters, an Army statement said.

"General Singh was briefed on operational aspects pertaining to the Command area of responsibility and apprised about the training initiatives being taken to enhance the operational effectiveness, especially with regard to counter terrorist operations," the release said.

The Army Chief, who is superannuating this month-end, interacted with veterans residing in the tricity as also with commanders and other officers of the Command, the statement said.

Addressing all officers of the Western Command, Singh exhorted them to continue working hard and maintain the highest standards of operational, training and administrative activities.

He highlighted the various initiatives undertaken over the last two years for improving satisfaction levels for serving and retired officers, the release said.

General Singh paid homage to the martyrs and laid a wreath at the 'Veer Smriti' in the Chandimandi Cantonment, close to Panchkula.
