NEW DELHI (PTI): Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor is expected to embark on a visit to Myanmar on Sunday to discuss security cooperation between the two countries.

During his visit, Gen Kapoor is expected to meet the top Myanmarese leadership and discuss enhancing military and security relations between the two armies.

India has been seeking Myanmar's help in stopping North Eastern insurgent groups from finding sanctuary in Myanmar along the border states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram.

Cooperation in terms of military equipment has been increasing between the two sides in the recent past with India agreeing to supply three Islander aircraft to Myanmar during former Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta's visit to Yangon in 2007.

India and Myanmar share a 1,600km porous frontier but there are only two recognised border points in Manipur and Mizoram.
