Indian Army chief in Sri Lanka


COLOMBO (PTI): Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh has arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday on a four-day visit to strengthen bilateral military ties.

Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said the visit is aimed at finding ways to enhance military cooperation between the Sri Lankan and Indian armies.

During the visit from December 19-22, the Army chief is scheduled to interact with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other high level political and military dignitaries.

He would also be reviewing the passing out parade in a military training academy in the central resort of Diyatalawa on Saturday before his return.

Gen Singh is also scheduled to visit northern part of the country.

The last visit by an Indian Army Chief to Sri Lanka was in September 2010.
