Indian Army gets NBC Recce Vehicles from DRDO


India’s first indigenously built NBC Recce Vehicle designed, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)

PUNE (PTI): Indian Army Tuesday further fortified its defence against the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical (NBC) weapons threat with the Recce Vehicles delivered by DRDO.

"With the possibility of non-state actors possessing such weapons, the NBC warfare agents pose a potential threat to the country. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have prepared the country to deal with any NBC eventuality with formulation of standard operational procedure of response", DRDO Chief Controller Research and Development (Life sciences) Dr W Selvamurthy, said.

He handed over the last batch of four NBC recce vehicles to Engineer-in-chief Lt Gen M C Badhani at a function here.

These vehicles which resemble tanks are equipped to monitor radiologically and chemically contaminated areas and provide protection to the crew and allows it to fix flag marks without having to come out of the vehicle.

The recce vehicles have been designed and developed by DRDO with its defence lab at Jodhpur as nodal agency with the NBC instruments integrated at Bharat Electronics Ltd in Pune.

"DRDO has already delivered more than 35 state-of-the-art systems for NBC defence, to the Armed Forces of the production value of Rs 500 crore. These products also have an export potentials for friendly countries", Selvamurthy said, adding, the first NBC recce vehicle will be displayed in the Republic Day parade.
