India to test new variant of Agni missile in two months

PUNE (PTI): India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will start test-firing a new variant of Agni missile named 'Agni 2 plus' in next two months, V K Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, said on Friday.

"The modified version of Agni 2 would have better accuracy and range," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

On BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile, he said work on the aircraft version of the missile was in progress and it would be integrated with Sukhoi fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

Saraswat said DRDO scientists were also engaged in development of Agni 5 which is expected to be tested in 2011.
