NEW DELHI (BNS): The Indian remote-sensing satellite Cartosat-2B launched by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C15) on Monday, will become operational in a week, a media report said.

“The health of the satellite is good. Everything has been checked out. It will become operational in a week's time,” The Hindu quoting PS Veeraraghavan, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, said.

The images taken by Cartosat-2B's camera will be available soon after it becomes operational. The satellite's solar panels were deployed soon after it flew out of the fourth stage of the vehicle, Veeraraghavan was quoted as saying.

Cartosat-2B is an advanced remote sensing satellite built by Indian Space and Research Organization (ISRO). This is the latest in the Indian remote sensing satellite series and the 17th in this series.

A set of four satellites including ‘Studsat’ built by students of seven engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, ‘Alsat’ from Algeria, two nano satellites from Canada and Switzerland, and a pico (very small) satellite ‘Oceansat 2’ accompanied Cartosat 2B on its trip to orbit.

Besides launching 17 Indian satellites, the PSLV rocket has also launched 22 foreign satellites during 1994-2009 into polar sun synchronous, geosynchronous transfer, highly elliptical and low earth orbits and has repeatedly proved its reliability and versatility.
