RAIPUR (PTI): The ISRO today proposed to open a Space Application Unit (SAU) in Chhattisgarh to harness the benefits of the space technologies for common men use.
G Madhavan Nair, chairman, ISRO, while proposing the state to open the SAU said the organisation would provide technical support to the unit at the beginning to take the benefits of space technology to the common men.
"We (ISRO) are proposing the Chhattisgarh government to open a space application unit. ISRO would provide technical assistance to the unit at the beginning so that the benefits of the space technologies could be used for common goods," Nair said at a talk on Indian Space Programme here.
Nair, who was here to attend the convocation ceremony of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PT. RSU) as the chief guest, said space technology could be used in the field of tele-medicine, tele-education, irrigation, meteorology etc.
The ISRO chief said space technology could be effectively used in a state like Chhattisgarh to improve the crop production, enhance irrigation facilities, extension of better medical support and several other fields.
