ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA (BNS): The 6th International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS 2013) has kicked off on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The five-day exhitbition is held with the participation of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation, the Government of Saint-Petersburg and Rosoboronexport. The Exhibition Operator is Morskoy Salon JSC.
The biennial naval exhibition will see participation of more than 350 companies, including 38 foreign ones.
Major defence and aerospace companies namely, United Shipbuilding Corporation JSC, Russian Technologies State Corporation, Concern CSRI Elektropribor JSC, Concern AVRORA Scientific and Production Association JSC, Krylov State Research Centre, Concern Morinformsystem-Agat JSC, Concern Oceanpribor JSC, Concern Granit-Electron JSC, Concern Sea Underwater Weapon - Gidropribor OJSC, FSUE Central Research Institute of Structural Materials Prometey etc will be displaying a wide range of cutting-edge military products.
From India, BrahMos Aerospace is also taking part in the grand event and will be showcasing the BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile.
The exhibits profile includes: naval and commercial shipbuilding, power plants, complexes of naval armament and weapon, navigation, communication and control, naval aviation, location and logistic infrastructure, new materials and technologies.
The defence show will also see demonstration of four helicopters of Russian Naval Forces. Concern Morinformsystem-Agat JSC will be representing the BAL-E mobile coastal missile system and the Club-K missile container system at the Show.
The demonstration will also present 35 ships and boats of Russian Federation Navy, Border Guard of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and enterprises-participants of IMDS-2013. Four foreign warships are expected to come.
At the artillery range of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation «Rzhevka» naval artillery and small-arms weapon firing demonstrations will be held for mass-media representatives and foreign official delegations.
Traditionally, as part of IMDS-2013, aerobatic teams Strizhy and Russkie Vityazi will demonstrate their flying skills.
Besides the international exhibition, the event will consist of scientific conferences on naval shipbuilding technology.
