JERUSALEM (BNS): The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has awarded a contract worth around $30 million to the Israel Aerospace Industries to supply two land navigation systems to it.

The two systems – the Modular Azimuth Position System (TMAPS) and the Advanced Navigation System (ADNAV) – will be used in the IDF’s Merkava main battle tank, and on the ‘Namer’ Merkava-based armoured personal carrier (APC), respectively, IAI said.

Both the TMAPS (TAMAM Modular Azimuth Position System) and the ADNAV are self contained hybrid land navigation systems.

The inertial navigation systems, which can be used on a number of platforms like tanks, APCs, self propelled guns, towed guns, artillery radars, rocket launchers and armoured and other kinds of vehicles in different battlefield scenarios, provide position, heading and orientation data.
