IAF to set up air defence radar station in Mizoram


AIZAWL (PTI): The Indian Air Force (IAF) has planned to set up an Air Defence Radar Station in the strategically important state of Mizoram, an official release said here Thursday.

Sandwiched between two countries, the north eastern state has 404 km and 318 km long international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh respectively.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between Governor Lt Gen M M Lakhera and the visiting Air Marshall K K Nohwar, AOC-in-Chief of Eastern Air Command at the Raj Bhavan here Wednesday.

The release said 300 acres of land at Zopuitlang in Lunglei district was identified by the IAF and the civil administration for the purpose.

Long term use of the lone Lengpui Airport of the state by IAF aircraft was also discussed at the meeting.
