CHANDIGARH (PTI): The IAF would start a project next month for upgradation of MiG 29 fighter aircraft, Air Marshal Pramod Vasant Athawale has said.
"The project to upgrade MIG 29 will be completed in the next five years," he told reporters Tuesday.
The IAF had received six upgraded MIG 29 aircraft from Russia and the rest of the fleet will be upgraded in the country itself, he said.
Besides, the IAF had decided to upgrade the repair and service facilities of fighter aircraft, he said.
The upgradation project of MIG 29 would be done at the Base Repair depot (BRD) at Kanpur, he said.
The IAF had already started upgradation of AN 32 aircraft, he said.
He said that the maintenance force of IAF is targeting to achieve five per cent progress from the existing level in role equipment as well as aircraft serviceability.
"The IAF is observing this year as year of maintenance of aircraft," he said.
Under the modernisation process, all BRDs are going through revamp, he said.
