IAF in north-east India being modernised

SILCHAR, ASSAM (BNS): The IAF is modernising its air defence system in India, especially in the north-east.

According to Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Pradip Vasant Naik, the air defence system is modernised with the induction of highly sophisticated fighter aircrafts and helicopters, as reported by the PTI.

"IAF is strengthening itself especially in the north-eastern region by inducting 126 Sukhoi MK1-30 fighters, 80 MI-17 helicopters, 22 combat helicopters, 197 utility helicopters, 15 heavy-lift helicopters among others," Naik said on Tuesday at Kumbhirgram air force base near here, according to the report.

Naik also said that IAF will soon start night landing facility at the Kumbhigram air base after getting permission from defence ministry.
