HAL to display FGFA model during Aero India 2013

BANGALORE (BNS): Indian aerospace giant Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) will, for the first time, showcase the futuristic Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) it is co-developing with Russian firm Sukhoi during the upcoming Aero India 2013 event next month.

"For the first time, we will present to the world glimpses of prospective multirole fighter (PMF) also known as Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA). This is under co-development with the Russians," HAL Chairman R K Tyagi said.

India is partnering with Russia in developing the advanced warplanes for its air force. The initial version of the fighter plane is slated to be unveiled in India by 2014 and the Indian Air Force will begin their induction from 2022.

The state-owned aerospace company will also display models of Su-30 fighter jets, Light Combat Aircraft 'Tejas', Hawk advanced trainer jets and the Light Utility Helicopter.

The Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) 'Dhruv' and its weaponised variant 'Rudra' (Mk 4 WSI) will make flight displays along with the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) during the five-day mega event which is slated to attract the participation of over 600 companies from over 30 countries.

In addition, pilotless target aircraft (Lakshya), Shakti engine, state-of-the-art accessories and avionics from various divisions of HAL would also be exhibited, the company said.

The 9th edition of the international air show will be held from 6th to 10th February 2013, at Air Force Station Yelahanka, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
