Gen Bikram Singh meets Nepalese counterpart


KATHMANDU (PTI): Indian Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh on Thursday met his Nepalese counterpart Gen Gaurav Shumsher Rana here and discussed ways to boost military-to-military cooperation.

Gen Singh will attend the Nepal-India Joint Military exercise called "Surya Kiran VI" on Friday, according to the army sources in Nepal.

An infantry battalion of the Indian Army comprising 250 personnel and 200 personnel of the Nepal Army have been carrying out the joint military exercise at Saljhandi in Rupandehi district in southwest Nepal.

The two-week long exercise, which commenced on March 5, will conclude on March 18.

Gen Sing met Gen Rana at Nepal Army Headquarters in Kathmandu and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between both the armies. The two army chiefs also discussed bilateral issues.

The Indian Army chief paid courtesy calls on President Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sushil Koirala at their respective offices.

Gen Singh arrived in Nepal on Thursday on a two-day official visit at the invitation Gen Rana.
