PARIS (BNS): The French Navy has received the ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) ‘Le Terrible’ with modern facilities and enhanced sound discretion.

The Navy will officially deploy the submarine into service after the completion of its training programme.

According to the French MoD, Le Terrible is the fourth and final vessel in the Le Triomphant class.

The submarines of Le Triomphant class were equipped with highly developed sonar system. The Terrible and its elders (The Triumphant, The Bold and the Vigilant) move smoothly under the water and are capable to fade away under the noise of ocean.

The heavy built submarines are also capable of winning under water war, despite having huge size and weight. The maximum depth and speed were also increased for the same reasons.

The new M51 intercontinental missile with nuclear warheads is scheduled to be tested from the Le Terrible SSBN.

Le Terrible SSBN will be the first to be equipped with 16 M51 missiles.

The Navy also plans to make changes in the three submarines of Le Triomphant class between 2010 and 2018, to fit the new improved missile into them.
