PARIS (BNS): French Army will get 187 small protected vehicles (PVPs) from Panhard General Defense.
The Directorate General of Armaments placed an order with Panhard on May 7, 2010 to supply the vehicles to the French Army. The deliveries are expected in 2011.
This is the final installment of a total of 933 PVPs the DGA had ordered from the company in 2004. As per the original contract, Panhard was to deliver 200 PVPs to the Army every year starting from 2007 to 2012.
The PVP (petit véhicule protégé) is a light armoured four-wheel vehicle used by the French Army for deployment in long-range patrol missions. Air transportable and highly mobile, the all-terrain vehicle has a weapon self of 7.62 mm and can carry up to four passengers.
The PVP was shown in Lebanon in late 2009 and has been deployed in Afghanistan since February 2010.
