Rajahmundry (PTI): Every year 50,000 to 60,000 personnel retire from the Indian Army and the vacancies are filled by eligible candidates, Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju said.
Raju, who flagged off a 1.6 km run for candidates, on Sunday, the concluding day of a seven-day army recruitment rally, which began here on November 2, said, "There is no reservation for the posts, only physical and medical qualifications are the criteria for appointment to the posts in the army."
Eligible candidates will be recruited in the states according to the male population ratio for the posts of below officer rank in army through recruitment rallies, he said.
Over 32,000 eligible candidates attended the rally from Srikakulam, Vizinagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Khammam and neighbouring Yanam, Major General M N Kushid said.
He said the selection process was held according to 2001 census for candidates between 17-21 years. Out of 5,000 candidates who appeared for the running test, over 1,400 have been qualified for medical test.
