The Sniper ATP will equip Egypt's F-16 fighters. A Lockheed photo
ORLANDO (BNS): The Egyptian Air Force (EAF) has ordered the Sniper advanced targeting pod (ATP) from Lockheed Martin.
The EAF has selected the Sniper system to equip its F-16 fighters purchased under the 'Peace Vector' programme.
The Sniper targeting pod provides precision targeting and non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (NTISR) in a single lightweight system.
It helps in critical long-range, positive target identification, enhancing an aircrew's ability to detect and analyse ground targets while decreasing the risks posed by enemy air defences, according to Lockheed.
Sniper pods provide advanced targeting and NTISR capability on US Air Force and multinational F-16, F-15, B-1, F-18, Harrier, A-10 and B-52 aircraft.
The latest order has made the EAF as the 13th customer of the system.
