BALASORE (ORISSA) (BNS): India successfully test-fired a nuclear-capable ballistic missile 'Dhanush' from a warship in Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast on Sunday.

The ship-based ballistic missile was test-fired at 11.31 am from INS Subhadra 35 km off shore the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Balasore, defence officials said, according to a PTI report.

The 350-km range missile, a naval version of Prithvi missile system, has met all the velocity, height and guidance parameters.

The mission was tracked, for post-mission data analyses, through an integrated network of sophisticated radars and electro-optic instruments.

"It has met all the mission objectives and all the events occurred as expected and also monitored by the range of sensors. The mission has successfully accomplished its given objectives, said ITR director S P Dash."

The missile has a liquid propellant and with a payload of 500 Kg can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads. Dhanush missile can strike both sea and shore based targets.

According to a DRDO press release, the test launch was carried out by the Indian Navy. V K Saraswat, scientific advisor to Defence Minister A K Antony, was also present during the flight launch.
